Podcasts

18 Jan

Our apologies to all our podcast followers – the last two months have been a bit fraught with problems.  The computer which records the podcasts has been giving some serious problems and many shows were as a result not recorded.  We are slowly working backwards from last weekend uploading the shows that are available, so if you are looking for a particular show, do check the podcast page.

As of today, programmes from the weekend of January 14/15 have been uploaded and are now available.

We are on air Saturday June 11th!

7 Jun

Great news to all fans of Cork FM Community Radio – we are back in air this coming Saturday and we will be on air every weekend for the next year.

Cork FM is now Cork FM Community Radio

21 Mar

Yes, we have changed our name, to more accurately describe our position in the community – that is, to serve the communities of Cork City.  But with the change of name does not come a change of ethos or dedication to the communities we serve.  We will be giving you the same local content that we gave you in our previous licence period and which the commercial radio stations cannot afford to give.

Remember to check back here regularly for updates as we approach our switch on date of May 21st and if you would like to donate to help us get on air, please click the “DONATE” button on our front page.

Sky Dive for Cork FM

29 Jan

Eliza Barrett, the plucky daughter of a Cork FM volunteer, is set to jump out of an aeroplane and skydive – all in aid of the Bring Back Cork FM fund raising campaign.

Eliza is making her jump in a few weeks time under the auspices of Skydive Ireland and is hoping that she will raise over €2,000 for her efforts.

Bringing a community radio station to air is not an easy operation.  It needs a lot of commitment from volunteers, of whom there are never enough, and it needs a lot of money to buy necessary equipment, pay the licence fees and other ongoing fees, build and equip the studio and pay for ongoing running expenses.

If you would like to donate – and we will accept any amount however small – please go to our home page and click on the “Donate” button.

Our heartfelt thanks go to those who have already donated.

Our Next Licence

29 Jan

Good news for all supporters of Cork FM – our application for a 100 day licence is now with the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland and we hope to hear with a few weeks that the new licence is to be granted.  We are planning to be back on air, broadcasting from new premises in Douglas Village Shopping Centre, kindly sponsored by the centre, at the end of March or the beginning of April.

Watch this space for more details.

UPDATE March 2011 – our application is still being considered by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland and is due for assessment soon.  As a result we have had to delay going back on air.  Once we get a decision from the BAI we will be able to publish our recommencement date.

Grand Cork FM Pub Quiz on November 19th

9 Nov

The “Bring Back Cork FM” movement is gaining speed. We are holding a grand Pub Quiz on the 19th November at 8pm at the Silver Key Bar in Ballinlough.

Remember, Cork FM is a community project.  It is a not for profit organisation, run entirely by volunteers who give up their valuable time to bring this valuable project to air.  It is very expensive to put the station on air, and to stay on air.  To achieve our target of returning to the airwaves in March 2011 we need to raise at least another €5,000 so your help is badly needed.

We look forward to seeing you on November 19th.
